another Talbot's cardigan

This is one of the 4 Talbot's cardigans I bought with my birthday money splurge.  (Bought at the same time as this skirt and this cardigan) .

The shirt is Banana Republic via Goodwill, and the shirt under the sweater is Ann Taylor via Goodwill.  Both I have worn before, the skirt here and here, the top here.  It is rainy here today, so I really debated if these shoes were the right choice.

two days one sweater

I didn't plan to wear the same cardigan 2 days in a row.  But sometimes it just happens.  On Monday I wore a thrifted Talbots shirt, my black pencil skirt, fishnet stockings and black knee high boots.

Monday was the first remotely Fall day (rainy and temps in the 70s), so felt good to wear my boots again.  Today I was in a hurry (busy week) so I went with an easy dress.
I actually tried my lime green cardigan first.  But it didn't look right, so I just embraced the turquoise.

Happy Friday

Oh how I love cashmere!  This sweater was part of my Talbot's shopping spree.  Originally $169, I paid $21.50.  It's a little brighter than I normally go for, but I think I will still get a lot of wear out of it.  The color allows it to be a year round sweater.  We are still in the 90s here, so I am still wearing summer skirts.  This one was a Goodwill find.

when life gives you lemons.......

This skirt was part of a recent Talbots outlet extravaganza.  I used birthday money from my aunt and uncle to get this skirt along with 4 cardigan sweaters.
The t-shirt I have had for quite a while.  The belt is from Goodwill.  The cashmere cardigan is quickly becoming a frequent star in my wardrobe (previously worn here and here).  I don't often show my shoes.  Not that I don't wear cute shoes, they just get cut off and I often don't have time to take show pictures.  Today was an exception.

sparkly flip flops?

I wonder if I was pushing the boundary of "work appropriate" with these sparkly flip flops.  With temps still in the 90s here, they were weather appropriate.  I didn't teach today, and during office hours my feet were hidden behind my desk.
Not much to say about this outfit other than it is all second hand (Goodwill and Salvation Ar,my).

LBD gets new life

One of the things that I love about thrifting is feeling like clothing gets a new life.  This past weekend I found a little black dress that seemed to be made for me.  Who knows why this poor little dress was abandoned at Goodwill, but I suspect it was due to a clearly missing belt.  I need to tack down the belt loops in case I ever want to wear this dress without a belt, as they stick out quite a bit.  And there was a little thread loop sort of thing in the front that I suspect was also related to the missing belt, but I snipped that loop off.  The dress was $5. It feel like pajamas. AND it has pockets.   :)

I added a belt from my wardrobe (also acquired via Goodwill), and a cream cami with some lace detail.  The neck line would probably be okay with out the cami, but on days I teach I like to make sure that there isn't an accidental show.  Especially since I tend to look at things straight on and think I am covered, forgetting that at 5'1" most of my students are taller than me.....so good to make sure they don't see anything if they look down at me.
The cardigan I added is also a new Goodwill find.  This past weekend I went on a Goodwill/Salvation Army shopping extravaganza with my friend C and her teenage daughter, K.  This dress and sweater were just some of the loot I scored.

where is Fall?

I am starting to get oh so jealous of friends who can embrace fall fashion, while I still suffer through 90 degree days.  This dress is probably one of the oldest items in my wardrobe.  It was one of the few items that I kept after losing 50 pounds.  My mom did some wicked alterations to salvage this dress I couldn't part with.  She even shortened it (used to be just past my knees) despite her opinion that longer was better.  This was the dress I wore to my 10 year high school reunion in 2004.  And too a few weddings that year as well.  It is a great jersey that never wrinkles, takes up virtually no space in a suitcase, and feels as comfy as pajamas.  I wasn't teaching today, but I still feel funny with bare arms with students around in the halls, so I added my yellow cashmere cardigan.

catching up

It has been a busy week or so!  Last week Thursday I went from my afternoon class to the airport to fly out to Colorado to meet with some collaborators.  I was there all weekend, and came back on a red eye Tuesday morning in time for my Tuesday morning class.  So here is a brief catch-up on a few outfits:
This skirt is Banana Republic via Goodwill.  The shirt is a recent Goodwill find.  The cardigan is cashmere from Ann Taylor that I bought after x-mas a few years ago.

I don't often wear shorts to work.  But these new gray shorts seemed work appropriate for a Friday when I don't teach.  I used a Kohls giftcard to get these shorts while in Colorado ($12.00).  Worn with a basic black tee, and a Talbot's cardigan that I bought with a birthday giftcard last year.

Animal print week

Two days in a row of animal prints makes this animal print week right?
I found this fo-wrap giraffe print dress on a target clearance rack.  I tried to use a $25 visa giftcard I had from a  rebate (thus following my no new clothes unless purchased with giftcards).  But the cashier could not figure out how to get it to work.  oh well, will now use that giftcard for groceries to compensate.  The dress was $17.49.  I got it on Friday, and thus had to immediately where it to teach in on Tuesday.

Yesterday, I decided to pair the new yellow cashemere cardi with this Ann Taylor silk shell I got off Ebay for $1.99.  Aren't the ruffles cute?  The brown skirt is from talbot's super clearance two years ago ($7.50, I think).  Where is the animal print you ask?  It's all in the shoes!

I picked up these shoes several years ago for a whopping $7.50, and they are comfy as they are cute.

Night out!

It was a friend's birthday party last night, which I used as an excuse to wear this blue dress that I got at a consignment store this summer while in Canada.    It also gave me an excuse to bust out these shoes:
I almost wore these to work last week, as they are actually comfy and give me some decent height for reaching the chalkboard, but I ultimately decided they are too sexy for a university classroom.  But they sure are fun for a weekend party!

ice cream sherbet

I got this skirt at the Salvation army for $1.99.  It is very summery.  I wore it to work on Friday.  I don't teach on Fridays, so I thought the more casual outfit was okay.  One of my colleagues said "You are VERY pastel-y today."  Not sure if that was a compliment or just an observation.  I do feel this outfit is a bit like a bowl of rainbow sherbet ice cream.

black and white and polka dots

Oh how I love black and white clothing.....and it is even better with polka dots!  The only black and white pattern I like better than polka dots is a black and white floral.  I recently got this belt at Kohl's on super clearance (70% off original price).
