stupid heels

This is the second outfit of the day.
Shoes and Skirt: Goodwill.  Cardigan and shell: Tabots.

I started out the day in the same navy shell, with a lavender swing cardigan and a new skirt (part of my holiday giftcard haul from the Talbots outlet).  I was hunched down over the load of unfolded laundry from this weekend looking for a slip to go under the skirt, found the slip, stood up and heard the worst sound ever!  The back of my skirt had slipped under my heels and when I stood it ripped my brand new skirt!
So sad!  Never even got to wear it!  Granted I only paid $8 for it.  It was below my knee, so I might take it to my tailor and see if it can be hemmed above the tear.  So very very tragic.  Today will be near 80 degrees, and I was so looking forward to debuting this breezey skirt.  Stupid heels.

catching up

This week was one of those weeks that completely got away from me, so outfit posts didn't really happen.  But I did snap pictures a couple days.  I'm just not timely in posting them.
I think this was Wednesday, but honestly, all the days blended together.

On Thursday during a faculty meeting, an older male colleague stated that I was looking "very plum".  Um ok.

picture issues

I could not for the life of me get a good photo this morning, and I have too much to do to waste any more time trying to get a good photo.  Yesterday I went to a clothing swap, and scored this lovely wool cardigan.  It will be in the 70s here today, so I broke out my new peep toe shoes (Madden Girl, $10 at Marshals).  Plus a sleeveless dress for when outside.  The dress is new too.  I got in at Goodwill with the tags still on, but I took it to the tailor to shorten before wearing (originally was below my knee).
The belt is from Marshals and was previously worn here.  Here is a close up of the shoes:
Normally peep toes don't fit my feet right, so I am excited about these.

giftcard + outlet = much happiness

This skirt was picked up at the Talbot's Outlet store with some of my xmas giftcards.  I think it will be a great year round skirt.

very monochromatic

I liked this outfit in the mirror, but on film it looks a tad to monochromatic.
This cream cardigan was a recent find at Goodwill.  The silk shell is from Ann Taylor via Ebay.  The Abercrombie and Fitch skirt I scored at Goodwill.  I love these Target boots!  The tights were an xmas gift a few years ago.

the day after V-day

Busy week, so kept it simple on Tuesday.
The wrap shirt is Forever 21 via Goodwill.  The cardigan is Ann Taylor via Goodwill.  These basic black pants have been in my closet for a while, and are just perfect.

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day.  I am not a big lover or hater of this holiday.  It's just sort of another day to me.  Although I do have a date tonight, so who knows.  Today I am breaking another one of my own fashion rules......fishnets at work.  I don't teach today, but will certainly see students.  But I think fishnets are becoming more mainstream and work appropriate.....or at least that is what I am telling myself.

The dress and cardigan are both being worn for the first time.  The dress I found at Goodwill.  The cardigan is 100% wool and I scored it at the Talbot's Outlet with xmas giftcards for a whopping $7.
This dress was one of those that looked "meh" on the hanger, but I think it is a flattering shape on my body.

Weekend Casual

This has been a long week, so by Friday jeans was all I wanted to wear......well not quite true I also wanted to wear cashmere.
This turtleneck sweater is only 5% cashemere, but that is enough to feel oh so comfy.  I got it for $5 on clearance at Forever 21 in 2009.  The tank underneath was clearance for $3 in 2008.  The jeans are White House Black Market via Ebay in 2008.

The comfort fest of jeans and cashmere continued to saturday.  I had a breakfast meeting with colleagues followed by a coffee 1st date.
The Ann Taylor 100% cashmere teal cardigan with the fun silk ruffle I got on Ebay for $9.99 with free shipping.  It arrived and still had the original tags on it!  The black and white striped top is from Talbot' via their outlet.  My date was really into my boots, he told me they were really sexy.  Thank you Target
for helping me get a sexy comment on a 1st date!

the power of thrifting

Today's outfit is a good demonstration of how with patience, a tight budget can still allow one to look fabulous.  This skirt was thrifted at Goodwill but is Anthropologie originally (paid $3.79).  I recently got it hemmed (2 inches off) and love it even more at this length.  My true wrap sweater is 100% cashmere and was thrifted at the Salvation Army for $3.99.
Since it is slightly cold here today, and we are interviewing a candidate, I decided to throw my Talbot's tweed blazer over the top.  Might not wear it all day, but I like having the option.

limo driver/ tour guide look

Today I need to pick up a faculty candidate at the airport and take him/her on a tour of the city and out to dinner.  Thus I went for pants and sensible shoes, as we may walk a bit.  Plus it is a little chilly for around here right now, so the pants are all around good.
These pants are from one of my suits (JC Penny I think).  The loafers are from Payless. The sweater is Ann Taylor Loft (via Goodwill).  Not sure what brand the blouse is, but it was also found at Goodwill.

breaking out the pants

Today I was just not feeling a skirt or dress.  Nothing flashy here.  Old standbys.
The shirt is from Ross, and my sister-in-law told me it makes me look too busty, so I added the wrap sweater (from NY&Co via Goodwill...nwt) to try and tone down the bustiness.  The pants are an old standby.....every woman should own a pair of black pants that fit her perfectly.  The shoes were a hand-me-down from my aunt who found the heel too high.

Monday, Monday

Not much of a title on the post, as it is Monday....and one of those Mondays that really feels like a Monday.
The cardigan is Forever 21 via Goodwill.  The dress was target clearance, bought with a giftcard last fall.  The shoes are Aldo final clearance ($29.99).  The tights I got at a random Walgreens when I was at a conference and needed another pair of tights (2 for $5).  The belt is new, it is Betsey Johnson, clearance prices at Marshalls ($7).

Date night

After my 2010 "only new to me" shopping year, the first thing I went to buy in 2011 was skinny jeans.  They are just not something I could find at Goodwill.  I also picked up this top at the same time, thinking it would be good for dates.  I decided to test drive the new shirt on my date tonight (1st date) since we were going bowling and I needed something casual.
Considering his mouth literally dropped a little when I took off my coat, I would say the top was worth it's $17.99 price tag (which after a year of second hand shopping felt like a lot!).

too costumey?

Last night I swung by a Goodwill a few miles from campus.  I fell in love with this plaid skirt with an asymetrical hem by Cato.
But I wonder if it is too costume like......do I look like I am going to some Highland games?  Maybe a different styling would help.  I did try it with my new olive green cashmere wrap sweater, but I thought this look was a better shape on me.   I thought about my cream turtleneck sweater, but it is in the hamper waiting for a wash.  The cardigan is Target (new with tags) via Goodwill.  Seriously, I should become a spokesperson for Goodwill.

a springy winter look

This skirt is probably intended to be a spring or summer skirt.  But with boots and a wool turtleneck, I think it works for winter.
The skirt is Ann Taylor via Goodwill.  The sweater is Banana Republic (100% merino wool) via Goodwill.  The pink t-shirt underneath is from Target clearance and the boots are also from Target.  This whole outfit was under $50, and considering the boots were $35, I think that is a pretty good deal.

happy hump day

Easy peasy for me on this Wednesday.
The skirt is via Goodwill (previously worn here).  The belt is also from Goodwill.  the boots are from Target and the sweater is from Forever 21.  All have been worn many times before.

wrap it up

Today I am dragging and just not feeling the cute vibe.  Plus it will likely be a rainy day here at some point.  So I went for a comfy wrap dress, cardigan and boots.  Boring? perhaps.  Do I care if it is boring?  no.
Did I mention the dress has pockets?  yay, pockets!  I got this dress from the Talbots outlet in Fall 2009 for $10.
