Friday Fun

I teach a lab on Friday, but I am exhausted by that time each week so I want something comfy. In my continued effort to make my wardrobe work year round, I layered a long sleeved tee under one of my short sleeved shirts. I love the pattern on this short sleeved top!

Making the most out of my wardrobe

I am really working to make the most out of my wardrobe. This dress is short sleeved and thus would normally fall under the non-winter category of clothing. But a cardigan fixed that! The dress is from Cleo and was about $15 in fall of 2008. the sweater is Banana Republic via Goodwill.
I explored layering tights. I am too old to wear white tights alone, but with a cool pair of black fishnet-like tights over teh top, they work really well.

I just wanted to show the fun detail on this shirtwaist dress.

The dress came with a matching cotton tie belt, but I thought the big burgundy belt added a little more interest. (BTW, a little behind.....this was Thursdays outfit)

super comfy boots

A day late, this post is on yesterday's outfit. I bought these boots this past fall, but hadn't managed to find the right way to wear them out. I think it is because they are flat and I do love a good heel. But I am so glad I decided to wear them.....they were super warm and cozy, almost like wearing slippers all day. The skirt is from Goodwill, and has pockets! The turtleneck sweater is a great slate/charcoal grey and is a cashmere blend I scored at Forevere 21 for about $6 this past fall. I am still loving this belt that I got at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago.

new to me sweater

This is a "new to me" sweater I picked up at Goodwill (originally Banana Republic). The belt is Goodwill ($0.99), the skirt is Talbots (clearance winter of 2009 for about $7), and the shirt under the sweater.....hmmm not sure when I got that. But an all over pretty cheap outfit that I really like. (This was actually what I wore yesterday, today I don't teach so just in jeans, turtleneck sweater, and grey blazer).

Friday, so why not leopard?

Rainy cold day here. Was at my office till 12:30am last night. rain plus little sleep meant comfort was essential today. The leopard cardigan was from The Real Canadian Superstore.....I think was about $17 bought over a year ago. The pants are Gap via a consignment store, and they are really really soft and comfy.

a dress that feels like a winter nap

This cardi is my favorite cardigan and is many years old. It is 100% wool and thus was easy to shrink some when I lost weight.

This burgundy sweater dress was a TJ Maxx find for around $15. It is so comfy, it just feels like a snuggley winter nap.

This necklace does not get much wear, as it feels and looks too heavy against bare skin. But I am liking it with the sweater dress.

Reading other fashion blogs has gotten me to try new things. Today I layered tights! Grey tights with a black floral fishnet over the top. Subtle, but making me happy.

brown

Brown is one of those comfort colors for me. Yesterday at Goodwill I got this sweater (Ann Taylor) and fun belt (who knows, but oh so cute) and couldn't wait to wear them. The pants are Gap via a consignment store when I lived in Calgary. I call them my "grandpa pants" an they are a large brown plain that makes me think of 70 year old men. Under the cardigan I am wearing a nothing special plain brown t-shirt. The belt has all sorts of different travel things that look very 1950's-esq.
